The Tigers have made nine signings so far and expect to make a few more before the window closes at the start of next month
Hull City are hopeful of signing Manchester United starlet Toby Collyer on a season-long loan in what would be a major coup for the club.
Midfielder Collyer has emerged as one of United’s brightest young talents following his switch from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022, and was on the bench for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham back in May to cap what was described as a breakthrough campaign for him.
City have been searching for defensive midfield cover throughout the summer and identified Collyer as a player with significant potential, and one capable of playing in the number six role.
The Tigers have been in talks with United for a number of weeks and believe they are leading the chase to sign the 21-year-old, ahead of other Championship clubs, including Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
City, who are still awaiting the outcome of their appeal against a three-window fee-restriction ban, are quietly confident of being able to conclude a deal for Collyer ahead of Oxford United’s visit to the MKM Stadium on Sunday, though a deal is not yet complete.
Collyer played 13 times for United last term both in the Premier League and Europa League having made his debut in the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley, but his season was hampered by a flurry of injuries which curtailed his progress, and the Old Trafford giants believe a season in the Championship will be important for his continued development.
Like the deals that brought Joel Ndala from Man City and Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United, the Tigers require the Red Devils to waive any loan fee, given they cannot pay one under the terms of their current transfer restrictions.
Before the move can be completed, City would need approval from the EFL who would have to agree to the finances of the deal, before sanctioning his registration.
That remains the case for Brandon Williams and David Akintola, with both players still awaiting the sign-off from the EFL to complete their respective moves to the East Yorkshire club.
