Families visiting an East Yorkshire train attraction have been urged to bring along soft toys for a Teddy Rides Eddie day. Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR), at Fimber, is hosting the fun event.

Wednesday, August 20, will see YWR hold its Teddy Rides Eddie event. Celia Wilkinson, YWR member, said: “Not many people know that before our locomotive ‘Sir Tatton Sykes’ was delivered to us, it was called Eddie.

“We wanted to give visitors during the holidays another great reason to come and see us. When an adult buys a ticket on Wednesday, August 20, they will also get a free child ticket if they bring a teddy.

“This is a perfect summer holiday treat for the young, or young at heart. Trains are running from 10am to 4pm, with the last train at 3.30pm. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone’s teddies on what is set to be a great day.”

Visitors to the YWR will also have the opportunity to explore the visitor centre, check progress on the new Visitor Centre and Working Facility, visit “Buffers”, the on-site shop for a tea or coffee and, for a small additional charge, take part in children’s crafting. In addition to its usual Sunday operating, the YWR is running trains every Wednesday through the school summer holiday, from 10am to 4pm.

Phil Robson, finance director, said: “2025 is looking set to be our best year yet. We are very thankful for all the support of visitors, members, and businesses alike.

“As a fully volunteer-run, charity-registered organisation, we need as much support as people are able to give to allow us to keep operating and moving forward. Events such as Teddy Rides Eddie will help keep the YWR in people’s thoughts as a great local attraction.”

The YWR is always keen to involve new people. Anyone interested in becoming a member or volunteering, making a donation or just finding out more can visit the YWR website or call 01377 338053 for more information.

The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and Bank Holiday from now until the end of October, and every Wednesday during school holidays, from 10am to 4pm. All trains run subject to availability.
