Frank Lampard says Hull City’s transfer issues with the EFL have not been a second thought as he prepares to face the Tigers at the CBS Arena on Saturday as the Championship season begins.

City were hit with a three-window fee restriction ban by the EFL in early July, but have since signed the likes of John Lundstram and Oliver McBurnie, while Joe Gelhardt has also arrived from Leeds United.

Lampard, who saw his Sky Blues beaten in the Championship play-off semi-final at Sunderland back in May, will kick off the season as one of the promotion favourites under the former Chelsea star. But Lampard says he will be taking nothing for granted against a Tigers side he believes has shown good energy over the summer period.

The East Yorkshire club won five of their seven pre-season games with their only defeat coming at the end of their first week of training, and claimed victories over Super Lig side Kasimpasa and Sunderland as Sergej Jakirovic quickly made his mark.

“I’ve seen the pre-season games, they’re playing well,” Lampard said on the eve of City‘s visit to the CBS Arena. “They’re playing with a really good energy and some different ideas, which tends to come with a new manager.

“They’ve got good players. There’s a lot being made about their transfer situation. It’s absolutely pointless to me to focus anywhere near that because they’re a strong team of good players already, and they’ve added some players to that, so (it will be a) very tough match.”
