A major road scheme in Hull city centre will soon see “big changes visually” after the project reached what engineers described as a milestone.

National Highways said that, since February, 4.5 million litres of concrete had been poured as part of the A63 Castle Street scheme, and the structural work would be completed in the coming months.

Isaac Banfield, assistant project manager, said: “The underpass section will evolve from structural works to roadworks, which is great progress.”

Work to build the new junction started in 2020 and, after it was hit by delays, is now due to be finished next spring 2026.

Mr Banfield added: “Completing the 14 concrete pours and removing the support props are milestone moments which required a great deal of planning.”

The £355m project has seen the A63 lowered at the Mytongate junction and a link between Ferensway and Commercial Road created on a split-level.

Other improvements include the eastbound carriageway being widened between Princes Dock Street and Market Place, and a new bridge at Porter Street.

The underground drainage system has been connected to a new pumping station next to Trinity Burial Ground.
