A development that promises more than 60 new homes in Hull is beginning to take shape, councillors have been shown. Social housing specialist Together Housing is working with contractor Esh Construction to build a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties at its Ryehill Grove site, just off Preston Road.

Work stated on the site opposite the Freedom Centre, between Ryehill Grove and Wyton Grove, earlier this year. Now councillors and officials from Hull City Council have been shown progress on the 65 new homes which include private gardens and parking spaces.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Renewal, Housing and Organisational Development said: “I’m pleased that more affordable housing will be available in our city, including homes that meet accessibility needs of those that live in them. The Council continues to strive towards creating safe and welcoming neighbourhoods, and the Net Zero measures included here also help in another of its goals as set out in the Community Plan, which is responding to the climate and nature emergency.”

The Preston Road area is home to one of the city’s largest housing renewal efforts with building of new properties and refurbishment of existing stock. The nearby former Groves estate has been redeveloped.

Together says that 16 of the homes at its Ryehill Grove development are being built to meet accessibility and adaptability standards, with features such as step-free entry, more circulation space, ground floor level-access showers in the three-bedroom homes and scope for future adaptations. The properties will also come with air source heat pumps, electric vehicle charging points and solar panels.

As well as the new homes, Together and Esh have built a new car park for the Freedom Centre. The charity provides education and training support, childcare, health and wellbeing activities and community safety.

Dai Howells, assistant director of development at Together Housing said: “We were pleased to welcome councillors and representatives from Hull City Council to Ryehill Grove to see the progress being made on site. Developments like this are key in addressing the housing crisis while ensuring communities like Hull benefit from continued investment in accessible, high-quality homes.”

Simon Woodward, operations director at Esh Construction, added: “We’re delighted with the early progress at Ryehill Grove, where the transformation of this site into 65 high quality, affordable homes is well underway. Bringing the project to life through our land led solution has enabled us to advance from planning to delivery, in close partnership with Together Housing. It’s a real testament to our team’s collaborative determination and a promising milestone in expanding accessible housing in the Hull area.”

Together Housing is based in Halifax and says it is one of the largest housing associations in the North of England. The not-for-profit organisation manages more than 38,000 homes and also builds and manages homes for sale through the Shared Ownership scheme, as well as providing retirement living and Extra Care Housing.
