Willie Peters is happy to welcome Rowan Milnes back to the club, stating that he has an important part to play in the coming weeks. As revealed by All Out Rugby League, the halfback has returned to Hull KR on an initial short-term loan from Castleford Tigers.

He has been drafted in to help cover Tyrone May while he is suspended but also to facilitiate a season-long loan move for Danny Richardson, who is heading to York Knights for the remainder of the year. That left the Robins needing cover in the spine and they have signed Milnes, who is off-contract at the end of the season.

He can’t play against his parent club this weekend but could feature in next week’s crucial clash with Wigan Warriors. Beyond that, he will have a key responsibility day to day.

“We need to bring in a back up half for a couple of reasons, possibly for games but also for our training,” Peters explained. “We do a bit of 13 v 13 so we like to have a senior half there, running the different plays the opposition are going to run against us and Rowan will do a great job doing that.

“We have 13 v 13, our top team playing that week and then the rest. Danny Richardson was our third half and he ran the shapes that the opposition were going to throw at us for that weekend. Having that senior player to run that team certainly helps and it makes our first team have to defend better. It prepares them the best we can for the week ahead.

“Down the track Rowan could play with us and that’s something we could look at at some stage.”

Meanwhile, Peters revealed Tyrone May has a slight knee complaint that would have potentially ruled him out of Saturday’s game against the Tigers. He is missing regardless as a result of a two-match suspension.

“It is what it is,” Peters said. “You can’t speak back to referees so we didn’t challenge it. He knows that, he’ll learn from it, we move on. It’s a slight knee issue, it might have needed resting anyway. It’s nothing major at all but it won’t hurt him having the week off.”
