The RSPCA is appealing for information after a dog’s body was sadly found buried on a beach in East Yorkshire. The animal charity said that a member of the public made the discovery.

A man noticed a dog paw sticking out of the sand and contacted the RSPCA. The dog was found on a quiet stretch of beach off Holmpton Road at Hollym, near Withernsea on Tuesday, July 29.

Animal Rescue Officer Emily Lomas went to the area the following morning to retrieve the dog’s body, which was already decomposing. As a result, the sex of the dog could not be identified.

The RSPCA said the medium to large wired-haired type dog was dark grey and had been wrapped in black fabric. The dog was microchipped, but the details had not been registered.

While some fur loss was evident, the charity said that there was no obvious signs of injury. Since the discovery, the RSPCA has launched an appeal for information.

“We’re keen to find out how and why this dog came to be left in circumstances like this. It’s quite a remote stretch of beach, but we’d appeal to anyone who was in this area in the days prior to the dog being found and saw anything that might be of help to get in touch.”
