Applications also include changes to a former council property in Hornsea
Here’s a run down of some of the planning applications that have recently been submitted to East Riding Council. The applications, which are currently under consideration at Beverley County Hall, include plans for a new Banking Hub in Market Weighton.
Other applications submitted to the council include plans for a former East Riding Council building to become a restaurant and bar. Plans for new homes in Market Weighton have also been submitted.
Banking Hub
A number of Banking Hubs have been popping across the country in response to individual banks closing a considerable amount of branches on high streets in various towns and cities. The hubs are run by the Post Office and are used as a shared space by the major high street banks. This gives customers the chance to speak to their bank and resolve any issues they may have face-to-face.
Plans have now been submitted to the council for a Banking Hub to be established at 17 High Street in Market Weighton. The property, which is a mid-terraced building, was previously a banking branch, having been occupied by HSBC.
Planning documents explain the site is currently a used by Wise Solicitors, who have been onsite since 2021. Plans say that under the proposals, the Banking Hub would use the ground floor of the building whilst the solicitors move up to the first floor.
Council building to become restaurant?
Plans for a former East Riding Council office building in Hornsea to become a bar and restaurant are also under consideration. 75 Newbegin in the East Yorkshire town was formerly owned by the council and used as a customer service centre.
Planning documents explain that the building is vacant following the council relocating to the new Hornsea Hub. After the council sold the property, the new owner is seeking to convert the property into a restaurant and bar with outdoor seating areas. The plans also include an extension to the rear of the property to provide additional dining areas.

New homes proposed
The council has also received an application for the erection of three homes in Market Weighton. The plans state the intention to build the homes on land sound of Spring Road in the East Yorkshire town.
The plans explain that the land is currently part of the rear garden of Givendale Lodge, an Edwardian villa, off Spring Road. However the access to the new houses would come from Meadow Drive to the south of the site. Plans state: “The proposal would deliver much-needed housing within the town for which there is an identified demand, providing a public benefit. The site is also located in a sustainable location.
