Hull City are set to offer Brandon Williams a contract at the MKM Stadium after being impressed by his attitude and application since coming in on trial.

It’s understood that the 24-year-old will be given the chance to make his temporary stay permanent at City as he looks to get his career back on track after a turbulent two years, which saw him slapped with a suspended jail sentence back in May.

The former Manchester United left-back made his second appearance for the Tigers on Saturday, coming off the bench in the second half of City’s 0-0 draw with Spanish La Liga side Getafe, backing up his cameo against Sunderland on Tuesday night.

Williams showed his versatility by operating at right-back and doing a tidy job having replaced Cody Drameh, while Ryan Giles initially continued on the left-side of defence.

City view Williams as a player with real potential, and believe that under Sergej Jakirovic, they can get the best out of a player who shot to fame when he broke onto the scene at Manchester United earlier in his career.

Hull Live understands more talks will take place with Williams in the coming days with a view to snapping him up on a free transfer and getting it ratified before the season opener at Coventry City next Saturday.

There’s an acceptance from Jakirovic that Williams will need time to get up to speed, having not played a competitive game since December 2023, when he was on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship, but that can be built up over the next few weeks.

Jakirovic said after the win over Sunderland on Tuesday night that he felt Williams deserved a second chance, while the former United ace says he’s fallen back in love with football, and is determined to grasp the lifeline handed to him by the Tigers.
