The Tigers are pushing hard to beat off competition to sign the striker
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic hopes the club will know the outcome of their bid to sign striker Oli McBurnie in the next 24 hours.
City have courted the 29-year-old striker for the duration of the summer following his departure from Las Palmas, but have not yet been able to strike a deal.
Those hopes of concluding a move for the Scotland international were hit when the club was landed with a three-window fee restriction by the EFL
The Tigers, though, have offered what Hull Live understands is a lucrative long-term contract to McBurnie in the hope of tempting him to link up with ex-Blade teammates John Egan and John Lundstram at the MKM Stadium.
They do face competition for him, however, with his former club in the Steel City offering him a contract to return to Bramall Lane. Ipswich Town are also interested, while another of his former clubs, Swansea City, have been monitoring the situation.
Las Palmas are also hopeful of bringing him back to Spain as they look to earn promotion and an instant return to La Liga following their relegation last term.
City, though, remain keen to bring McBurnie to the MKM Stadium but have given the striker a deadline of tomorrow to make a decision.
“No, he didn’t come yet,” Jakirovic told Hull Live when asked if there was any update on the deal. “Maybe tomorrow (Sunday) is the deadline.”
Jakirovic also hopes for more new arrivals before the season opener at Coventry City on Saturday. David Akintola is set to be confirmed early next week, pending his visa approval, but says players who want to come and play for the club have a major advantage.
“I expect (new arrivals) every day, somebody. There are a lot of names, but for me, who wants to come to play for Hull City, he has an advantage.”
Another new arrival, Enis Destan, was not involved in the 0-0 draw with Getafe as City rounded off their pre-season campaign against La Liga opposition.
The Bosnian says the 23-year-old had a little soreness in his knee, but expects him to be in training ahead of opening day.
“He’s got good fitness,” Jakirovic said. “He trained for the last three weeks normally with Trabzonspor, but had a kick on his knee, which is painful. When he kicks the ball, he has some discomfort.
“On the medical check, everything was OK, but when he kicked the ball, he felt something, and together with the medical team, we decided that he will not be involved today, so maybe Tuesday or Wednesday, he will start to train with the group.”
