A Hull restaurant has been named the best in the region at The Yorkshire Show. Brasa in Newland Avenue won “Best Restaurant East Yorkshire” in the competition last month.

The Portuguese restaurant opened in August last year. Speaking at the time, co-owner Paulo Amorim said Brasa’s mission was to “create exceptional culinary experiences” using the “finest ingredients and attention to detail”.

He said it was the first speciality Portuguese restaurant in Hull. When the Hull Daily Mail visited, we loved the cosy atmosphere and deep-fried pastries known as Rissois Mistos.

Paulo has lived in Hull for six years but was born in Brazil. He previously lived in Portugal, which inspired his love of the cuisine.

The Brasa team were delighted with the result. Paulo said: “Brasa is our little project where we have put together our passion and experience to make a space for everybody.”

He added: “It is such a special recognition as we have just been open for 11 months. We want to thank all our customers that made it possible.

“Their support is so much appreciated. We tried to bring a little bit of Portugal to Hull, making this a different culinary experience.”

Brasa has also been nominated for the National Competition for the British Business Awards. In a previous interview with Hull Daily Mail, Paulo said the restaurant can “offer more than just meals” and provides “an immersive gastronomic adventure”.

He added: “We are having great and fantastic reviews on Google, Facebook, and Instagram. We are really focused on the local community – we don’t have lots of Portuguese people here [in Hull] but British people love Portugal, so this is why we’ve opened a Portuguese restaurant.

“Our customers love it – the ambience and the food. Portuguese cuisine is really rich so all our customers say the same ‘it’s too much food!’ but we have really great and fantastic reviews. We didn’t expect that, to be honest.”

On Google Reviews, Brasa has an average of five stars out of five. Customers have described it as “easily one of the best restaurants in Hull” and “the best Portuguese cuisine in Yorkshire”.
