The Sir Henry Cooper High School opened its doors to 1,400 pupils for the first time in September 1967.
The school, in Thorpepark Road, Hull, was named after a former Lord Mayor of Hull and the first chairman of the Hull School Board, which pioneered education for the masses. The first school named after Cooper opened in Bean Street in 1876.
Sir Henry Cooper School closed in 2012, with pupils transferring to the newly-built Thomas Ferens Academy. Below we take a dip into the Hull Daily Mail archives to find photos of sporting endeavours, skills in food and woodworking and a spot of Caribbean-style entertainment for pupils, among the selection of nostalgic images.
