She has already done a spot of modelling and acting but it’s still a case of waitressing to pay the bills for Katie Dulson.
Now the 21-year-old, from Beverley, is hoping to change all of that with a place in the finals of Miss British Isles 2025. “It’s the first time I’ve been in the competition – they actually asked me to take part,” she said.
“They messaged me on Instagram and said they select a certain few individuals to go straight through to the national finals. So I’m there representing East Yorkshire at the finals at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Chester, on Sunday.”
Katie said: “This is more a modelling competition than a pageant and there will be two different rounds. The first is modelling a cocktail/party dress – a shorter style – and the second is a longer evening gown.
“They have said it’s based more on how you hold yourself, your walk, your posture, your look.” Katie originally moved to London to follow an acting path – “I was 18 or 19 at the time, and I still do some acting” – and last September entered a modelling competition.

“I ended up modelling at London Fashion Week for some different designers. There was me, coming from this small town in East Yorkshire, showing at London Fashion Week.
“It was exciting and slightly nerve-racking. It made me realise this is what I really wanted to do.
“I’m an agency-represented model but trying to make it full-time. I’ve already done catwalk and magazine work and I’ve recently done quite a few bridal shoots.
“I’m back home in Beverley and waitressing at the moment to pay the bills – it’s definitely been hard work and a bit stuffy in this recent hot weather – and I’d be happy to win Miss British Isles. They take you on a trip to Marbella and there are paid modelling jobs for the winner; I think it would help me get a foot in the industry and get me some more work for my portfolio.”
