Scotland international striker Oliver McBurnie is expected to make a decision about his future in the next week as he considers a host of contract offers.
McBurnie is wanted by a flurry of clubs in England and will be eligible to sign on a free transfer a week today as soon as his contract with Las Palmas expires on June 30.
The 29-year-old forward has held discussions with Hull City throughout the summer and is understood to be keen on a move to the MKM Stadium, where he would link up with two players he knows well in John Egan and Matt Crooks, but a deal has not yet been sealed.
It’s believed McBurnie has not yet made a decision over where his future lies, having opted to leave Las Palmas this summer after the Canary Islands’ outfit suffered relegation from La Liga and continues to consider his next move.
During his one season in Spanish football, McBurnie bagged three goals, but City believe he would be the perfect target man to fit within Sergej Jakirovic’s style.
The pair are thought to have met virtually last week, with the Bosnian keen to make his case to the powerful striker. Former clubs Sheffield United and Swansea City are also interested in the striker, while other clubs, including newly promoted Birmingham City, are thought to be chasing his signature.
Given how close the Tigers got to Kieffer Moore last summer, believing they had a deal for the Wales international, only to be pipped at the 11th hour by the Blades, club bosses are not counting any chickens just yet.
McBurnie is not the Tigers’ only striking option, but it’s understood the former Blade is one of their primary targets this summer and continue to push hard to get a deal done before they fly out for the start of their pre-season training camp in Turkey on July 13.
United, it’s thought, remain in the hunt to bring the striker back to Bramall Lane. That’s despite the departure of Chris Wilder and the appointment of ex-City boss Ruben Selles.
