Matt Crooks is once again proving the power of football as he embarks on charity work in South Africa ahead of Hull City’s return to pre-season training, emphasising why he’s just a genuinely good human being.
Crooks is the vice-chairman of the Jordan Sinnott Foundation Trust, a charity set up in the name of his close friend, who sadly lost his life in January 2020 at the age of 25, to give grants to make sport more accessible for the underprivileged.
Having already completed the Rob Burrow Leeds marathon earlier this summer in honour of Jordan, Crooks and his sister, Chloe, are heading to Durban armed with a bag full of Tigers kits for school children.
His extensive charity work, helped by Chloe, who chairs the foundation, funds the trip to South Africa and the work they’ll be doing there.
“I’ve got some charity work that I’m doing for my own charity,” Crooks told Hull Live. “We’re going to South Africa for a week, so that’ll be really nice to do that.
“Thanks to Johnny (Wallis) and Eyresy (John Eyre) (City’s kit men), they’ve given me loads of kits that I’m taking over, so I’m working with the Bambisanani Partnership.
“We’ve got a partnership going with them and working with South African school kids in an urban area in Durban, so that’ll be really cool. I’m really excited. He’s always with me in the little moments, Jord.
“They’re doing a sports leadership program, so we’ve put the money in to do that. We’ve raised money, and we’ve given them funding for the school to put it on. I’m going out with my sister and we’re going to oversee that. We’ll get involved and I’ll see what else I can do while I’m there, but we’ll make sure the kids enjoy themselves while we’re there.”
