Willie Peters has told his Hull KR to focus on themselves in their pursuit of the League Leaders’ Shield.
Rovers are now four points clear at the top of Super League after their win over Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors’ defeat to Wakefield Trinity.
Peters’ message came before Wigan’s surprise defeat but it perhaps has more significance after the events on Friday night.
“There’s a long way to go,” he said. “I know it’s cliche, but you do take it week to week. If we keep playing the way we are, we keep preparing the way we are, we’re going to keep getting results. That’s not us getting ahead of ourselves. We believe in what we do. We believe in what we do during the week to make sure that we put ourselves in a good position.
“And the players, you know, keep going after what they are. You put yourself in a position to win games. We’ll see how we go.”
Peters also warned that Wigan and Leeds are contenders and will remain so as the season progresses.
“Wigan are going to be there no matter what, it’s Wigan. Wigan is Wigan so we’re aware of that. So what we’re going to try and do is worry about us.
“I said before Leeds are improving every week. So you can’t afford to drop one. Where you go is always big games. It’s a big game for us next week back at home against Wakefield.”
