Lewis Martin is on course to set a new Hull FC record this season – at least in the Super League era. The 20-year-old has been ever present for the Black and Whites this year, notching up 18 tries from 17 appearances so far.
With two hat-tricks to his name already, the in-form Hull flyer has also recorded a brace and, in fact, has only failed to score a try in four matches this season. For good measure, he has also made the third highest number of carries across the entire Super League competition to date – 252 – and is sixth for metres made with 1,749. He’s also getting better with his defensive reads, notably producing two big tackles on Castleford’s right edge, albeit in defeat, last week.
And with 28 tries in 43 first-team appearances since debuting in the final game of 2023, the Hull-born talent continues to go from strength to strength. His record in 2025 is superb, and he is on course to set a new try record for the club in the Super League era.
To date, that record is set by former winger Tom Lineham, who managed 26 tries for Hull in the 2015 season. Next up was Shaun Briscoe’s 25 for the club, scored during the 2004 season. Meanwhile, the last time a Hull player topped 20 in a season was Adam Swift in 2023, who managed 22.
Meanwhile, Martin is set to score around 30 tries if he keeps up his current rate, with Hull set to play at least 30 games this year and more should they make the top six.
The last time a player topped that feat was Tevita Vaikona way back in 1997, with the Tongan outside back managing a very impressive 40 from Hull’s promotion season to Super League – a post-war club record. The last time a Hull player scored 30 in a top-flight season was Garry Schofield in the 1986/87 campaign. He managed 32 in as many games.
The club’s all-time record for tries in a season was set by winger Jack Harrison in the 1914/15 season. He managed a staggering 52. Martin won’t reach that height, but as for the club’s Super League record, it’s very much in sight, with the winger, who is set to top Hull’s try chart for the second successive year, needing eight more tries to equal it and nine to beat it. Hull have a minimum of 13 games left this season.
