A ‘heat-health alert’ has been issued with sweltering temperatures forecast in Hull and East Yorkshire later this week.

The mercury could top 30C on Saturday in the hottest spell of the year so far. The yellow-level alert, which comes into force at noon today and will be in effect until 6pm on Sunday, says “minor impacts are likely across health and social services”, including “increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people, greater risk to life of vulnerable people, and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm”.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) provides updates on extended periods of hot weather in partnership with the Met Office between June and September.

Though temperatures today and on Thursday are not expected to be as warm as they have been at times over the past few days, with highs of between 22 and 24C, they will climb again on Friday and Saturday with peaks expected to be between 27 and 31C in our region, with Saturday being the hottest day.

Plenty of sunshine is expected though there will be a fairly strong breeze at times, particularly nearer the coast.

Things are expected to cool down somewhat on Sunday before temperatures drop further early next week to daytime peaks of between 21 and 24C.
