A suicide loss charity will soon be having its annual fundraising walk at the Humber Bridge.

Hull-based charity Mysterious Minds funds funeral costs for families bereaved by suicide. It also provides emotional support for the bereaved and provides signposting to services that can help a person in a mental health crisis.

The annual You Will Never Walk Alone fundraiser will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 1pm in Humber Bridge Country Park gardens. A flag bearing the photographs of those who have passed away from suicide will be carried along the route.

Submissions for photographs are still open; the deadline is Tuesday night. Anyone who wishes a photograph of their loved one to be included should contact the Mysterious Minds Facebook page.

Dawn Stansfield, a trustee of Mysterious Minds, is trying to raise awareness of the walk so as many people can join as possible.

She said: “Previously, we’ve had the walk, it’s been an absolutely fabulous event, but when people have seen it afterwards they’ve said, ‘I wish I’d have known about this we would have liked to have come.’

“It’s not just about raising money, it’s about being together and remembering loved ones. It’s a walk, and talk and support.”

Describing the event on its Facebook page, Mysterious Minds said it was an opportunity for families to “come together and remember there loved ones lost to suicide”. It raises much-needed money for funerals.

They added: “It’s a lovely day filled with laughter and plenty of tears, but we are all together to support one another. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t lost a loved one to suicide.”

A separate walk in aid of Mysterious Minds is due to take place on Saturday, August 30. The “Ultimate Hull Walk and Talk” will traverse the entire width of the city from east to west, starting at Asda Bilton, and finish in Hessle.

Organiser, Isaac Thompson, from east Hull, said: “Mysterious Minds is a charity that gives a lot of help to families affected by suicide. It isn’t something I have ever been through myself but I have seen someone come close and I know I couldn’t imagine a world without a family member or friend, especially knowing that they have passed away due to their mental health.

“It’s another reason why I’m trying to encourage as many people to come out and walk with us and talk about things they might be struggling with, just to try and make things that little bit lighter for them to carry.”
