Willie Peters will get an honorary degree of letters from Hull University

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters will be awarded a special honorary degree by the University of Hull on a night when the club will premier their new documentary series.

As previously revealed by Hull Live, Rovers opened their doors this year to a film crew to document their every move, with that footage now turned into a television documentary series. The first of what we can now reveal will be a seven episode series called Renaissance, will be shown at Hull University to a special invited audience who will also be in attendance to celebrate Peters’ own personal honour.

The event on December 17 will see the University of Hull host a special celebration of Rovers’ historic achievement as treble winners and to honour the outstanding leadership of head coach Willie Peters, who will receive what is called an an honorary degree of letters.

Hull University said; “In awarding degrees, the University of Hull celebrates the determination, resilience, and ambition of its graduates. Each graduation is also an opportunity to honour individuals whose leadership, talent, and generosity have transformed their fields and communities.

“Willie Peters exemplifies this spirit, a true change-maker deserving of the distinction we are proud to bestow upon him.”

The seven episode documentary series is expected to air in February 2026, but those in attendance will get an opportunity to watch the first episode which was produced to attract broadcast interest, with sources suggesting the series has now been picked up to be show across UK television and in Australia.

The honorary degree will be a special moment for Peters and his family, as the KR coach continues to prepare his team for a fourth season of Super League under his leadership, as well as a first-ever World Club Challenge against Brisbane Broncos. The 46-year-old Aussie has already established himself as one of Rovers’ best-ever coaches after his treble success.

Rovers’ board decided on using the Hull University degree presentation night as an ideal setting for their documentary premier, with the club boasting a strong relationship with the University, who are their academic partners and assist with the Hull KR Business Academy in a programme driven by the board to educate and grow over 20 local businesses.
