Joe Burgess has shared one final message on social media after completing his England comeback following a decade out of the international stage.
The flying Hull KR winger was selected for the third and final Ashes Test at Leeds’ Headingley Stadium, where the Kangaroos ran out 30-8 winners to seal a series whitewash.
Burgess replaced Dom Young in Shaun Wane’s starting 13, with the Newcastle Knights winger ruled out after suffering a broken foot at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium in the second Test.
It marked Burgess’ first international appearance since 2015 – when he won all three of his caps – and served as a fitting reward for an outstanding season with the Robins. The 31-year-old crossed for 24 tries in 25 appearances under Willie Peters, contributing to their historic treble victory.
Previously, Burgess had scored on his England debut against France and featured in the 2015 Test series against New Zealand.
“I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to play for my country once more and be involved in this Ashes series,” Burgess posted on social media.
The experienced winger will now enjoy some well-deserved downtime after helping Hull KR to the League Leaders’ Shield, Challenge Cup and Super League title in 2025.
Speaking ahead of his fourth England cap, Burgess described the 2025 season as the best of his life.
“This has been the best year of my life, my first time winning Challenge Cup and Super League,” Burgess said in the build-up to the third Test. “Then being recalled back to England squad, it is an unbelievable year I still have not fully processed.”
England had already lost the series before Burgess’ introduction, with Leeds Rhinos’ Harry Newman also featuring for the first time across the Ashes at his home ground.
