‘We have a complete video of their entire meet-and-greet with David, and the girl had a book signed by him; I think it would be so special for her to have that’
A man who offered to film a young fan meeting TV star David Walliams in Hull hopes to track her down to be able to give her the footage as a keepsake. David Fisher, of east Hull, was at An Evening with David Walliams at the Connexin Live arena with his fiancée Mandy, on Wednesday, November 5.
The couple were queuing for a pre-booked, pre-show meet-and-greet with Walliams when they encountered a mum and daughter also waiting to see the star of Little Britain, Come Fly With Me and Britain’s Got Talent. David said: “We were in a queue waiting and my partner Mandy asked the lady in front if she would like her to film their meet-and-greet experience and she said yes.
“We had already spoken to her while we were waiting to enter the venue. Because of the girl’s age she was going to be picked up after the meet-and-greet, leaving her mother to watch the show, but it looks like she may have left at the same time.
“During the interval we had a really good search but just couldn’t find her. We have a complete video of their entire meet-and-greet with David, and the girl had a book signed by him; I think it would be so special for her to have that.
“They will have stills photos of it but on the video you can hear them chatting. The lady disappeared before we were able to forward it.
“I think it would be a wonderful memory for the daughter to keep if she could be reunited with it, even something to share with her school friends.”
“I thought that if something went out on Hull Live and in the Hull Daily Mail – even if the mum didn’t see it herself – that someone might know who they were.” David said about two-dozen people had booked the meet-and-greet and that Walliams was “very friendly”, having come outside beforehand to let the queue know they would be let in soon.
“He came out of a side door and said hello to everyone. Some people were having books signed, some were just having photos taken with him.”
David said the show was “really, really funny” and “far better than I imagined, really”. “He was talking about his life, how his career developed and how he met his work partner Matt Lucas.
“He talked about his books and writing, a bit of everything really.” David said: “We noticed there was an empty seat at the front and I wondered if that was where the lady should have been sat but then had to go.”
