Lengthy prison sentences given to two men involved in separate operations to smuggle very large amounts of drugs into this country from abroad were among the many serious cases that were featured during October. One of them used an encrypted phone system but he was caught out when international investigators decoded the many messages that were exchanged during the conspiracy.
The other drugs boss saw his large-scale multi-million-pound activities torpedoed when suspicious parcels were intercepted at an airport. The recent series of sex offenders given long prison terms continued when one offender was given 25 years and the other got 21 years.
Other sex offenders got 10-and-a-half years and eight years. A violent blackmailer who confronted the victim in his own home and a robber who targeted a woman outside a supermarket were also jailed.
A violent taxi passenger who threatened the driver, a dangerous driver who crashed into a traffic island and a prisoner who attacked another inmate in his cell were also locked up. These are some of the cases that have been featured from Hull Crown Court and, in some cases, at Grimsby Crown Court, during October.
