The hosts have lost all five of their Carrow Road games this season and are 23rd in the Championship, some 11 points off Hull City
Liam Manning looks to have been given a reprieve ahead of the clash with Hull City on Saturday, despite some Norwich City fans demanding change and planning protests.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Swansea City left the struggling Canaries stuck in the bottom three after a disastrous start to the new season, but it appears Manning will be in the Carrow Road dugout for Saturday’s early kick-off.
Majority shareholder Mark Attanasio is scheduled to meet Manning this week with a growing expectation among fans that there could be a change in management, but Manning is expected to be given a chance to turn things around, starting with the visit of the in-form Tigers this weekend, and he wants his players to adopt skipper Kenny McLean’s attitude.
Manning, though, admits his side are in a scrap having lost their last five Championship games, though their recent record against the Tigers should give them hope.
The East Yorkshire side have managed just two wins at Carrow Road since 1972 and have lost five of their last six, but will arrive on the back of a five-game unbeaten run.
“I hurt as much as anybody, in terms of when I go home and we’re not performing well and not getting the results. But the only way I can change our work,” the under-fire head coach said.
“We can keep talking about change. We can keep talking about taking responsibility. We can keep talking, but it’s beyond that. Now, like I said, we’re in it.
“We’re in a scrap, and the only way out is by showing passion, by showing fight, by taking responsibility. I’ve never shied away from that.
“We’re in the industry that it’s about getting results, and we’re not, so I totally get why people would be frustrated, annoyed, angry. As long as it’s not personal, I think if it’s professional, I get it. Totally get it.
“Football clubs are the fans, so when you’re not winning games and you’re not performing like you want to, I get it. I’ve never shied away from that. It’s not the first time I’ve had it.”
“When I look at Kenny (McLean), he’s someone you definitely go to war with. He’s probably taken on so much in terms of responsibility,” City’s head coach said. “You saw that chance in the first half, that is him taking responsibility by getting on the ball and driving through them.
“Unfortunately, too many of the lads are looking to him to try and change where we’re at and putting a huge amount on him. A lot of people can look at him and how he steps up and takes responsibility. We need more people to do that.”
