The Tigers will go in search of a fourth straight league win this weekend
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has hit out at the fixture scheduling as he prepares to try and end Hull City‘s three-game winning run.
For the second time this season, the Addicks have had two away trips in a three-game week, with the visit to the MKM Stadium coming after Tuesday night’s trek to Ipswich Town, and that’s left Jones unhappy.
Before the international break, Charlton saw off Blackburn Rovers 3-0 at The Valley before drawing at Derby County and losing 2-0 at Preston North End.
This week, Jones’ men beat stricken Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in South London before that stunning 3-0 success at Portman Road, but ahead of the trip to East Yorkshire, the Welshman made clear his feelings about what he feels is unfair scheduling.
He also highlighted that the Tigers have enjoyed home comforts this week, having seen off Leicester City following last weekend’s win at Birmingham City, a near three-hour journey.
Later this month, Charlton will have successive home games against Swansea City and West Brom before facing Wrexham in the space of a week before the November break, while the Tigers go to Norwich City and Derby County ahead of Portsmouth at the MKM Stadium.
“It’s our second double,” Jones mused. “I’ve been vocal about that, but there’s nothing we can do now, but that’s the disappointing thing. We’ve had two good results before, and then you have to do another travel, whereas we played Preston and they didn’t have to, and neither do Hull (City), they’ve had home comforts all week.
“It makes it a little bit more difficult, but there’s nothing we can do. What we’ll be doing is making sure we get them (the players) in the best physical state possible. Tactically, we’ll be ready, we know that, and we then travel up and hopefully finish the week off well.”
On facing City, who are only below Charlton on goal difference after a stellar start to life back in the Championship# following their play-off final success, Jones says there will be no shortage of threats from Sergej Jakirovic’s men.
“It’s the Championship test,” he continued. “You have a look at the teams and the teams down the bottom. Sheffield Wednesday were a good side. The Championship is such a good league.
“Every side poses different threats, different tactical threats, different individual threats. You just have to make sure you’re doing the basics well, you’re doing what you do, and try to impose that on the opposition.
“It’ll be a tough test, they’re in good form. They have good individuals right throughout the team. It’s a side that’s been in the Championship for a few years now, but it’s just another test.”
