The roadworks are expected to take five days to complete
Hull City Council has announced it will be carrying out essential carriageway maintenance in east Hull next week. The roadworks will be taking place on the roundabout at the junction of James Reckitt Avenue and Gillshill Road.
The council has said the work will improve the existing carriageway, to ensure the road surface remains safe, even, and provides adequate grip and skid resistance for all road users. Work is due to start on Monday, October 27 and is expected to be completed by Friday, October 31, depending on the weather.
To ensure the safety of both workers and the public, the works will be completed under a road closure, split into two phases:
- Phase 1: Monday, October 27 to Wednesday, October 29 (until 9.30am) – access and egress from Gillshill Road to James Reckitt Avenue via the roundabout will be closed to traffic with two-way temporary traffic signals to maintain access along James Reckitt Avenue. During this phase, vehicles will be encouraged to follow the diversion using Ings Road or Lambwath Road to gain access to Sutton Road/Cavendish Road and the north of Gillshill Road.
- Phase 2: Wednesday, October 29 (from 09.30am) to Friday, October 31 – the roundabout will be fully closed to traffic to allow for final resurfacing. The same diversion routes from Phase 1 will remain in place.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, and the pedestrian footways will not be affected. Bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal, with access to emergency vehicles granted at all times.
However, scheduled bus services will not be able to access the bus stop located near the roundabout in James Reckitt Avenue during the road closure. Notices will be placed at bus stops giving more details about how these services are affected.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “Maintaining a safe and reliable road network is a key priority for us as a council. These essential works on James Reckitt Avenue will significantly enhance the condition of the road for all users.
“It’s important for our residents that we minimise the disruption caused by roadworks as much as possible, so I welcome the phasing of the work during the October half-term when traffic is lighter. We thank residents and motorists for their patience whilst we carry out these essential works.”
The work will be carried out by CR Reynolds Ltd on behalf of Hull City Council. CR Reynolds will liaise with residents and businesses if any changes to the scheme occur.
