The talented gloveman will hope to return to Victoria Park once he’s recovered
Harvey Cartwright is back at Hull City after suffering another injury setback, in what Hartlepool boss Simon Grayson has described as a big blow.
Cartwright’s career has been blighted by a flurry of unfortunate injuries, which have curtailed his progress, and his latest setback comes after a terrific start to the season at Victoria Park.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has impressed since arriving at the National League club in the summer, keeping seven clean sheets in his 13 appearances for United.
Cartwright, who was due to spend the season on loan in the North East, was forced off just 38 minutes into the game with arch-rivals Carlisle United in midweek, and he’s since returned to Cottingham for treatment with his loan being cut short. Millwall’s George Evans has since been signed to replace the City youngster and made his debut in the 2-1 defeat at York City on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a big blow for us because he’s been outstanding,” Grayson told the Pools’ website. “We’re all gutted for him, it looks like he’s just tweaked his thigh. It was disappointing to lose Harvey.”
The former England Under-21 stopper has endured a tough time in recent seasons through injury, having struggled with a thigh problem during a spell at Peterborough, while he underwent elbow surgery and missed the entirety of the last campaign.
Prior to that, highly-rated Cartwright was named Grimsby Town’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2023/24 campaign following a stellar campaign on the opposite side of the River Humber.
He now faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines and will hope to get back fit sooner rather than later and have a chance at getting a move in January.
