City will be desperate to return to winning ways against the Tractor Boys

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic says his side will be ready for a tough test as they look to fashion a sixth home win of the Championship season against one of the promotion favourites on Tuesday night.

City host Ipswich Town at the MKM Stadium, looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-2 loss at QPR on Saturday, despite leading twice through Joe Gelhardt and Enis Destan.

Town, who have yet to really get going following their relegation from the Premier League, were held to a goalless draw by Wrexham at Portman Road, but would leapfrog the Tigers with victory in East Yorkshire.

“Big game, yes, we will be ready for this. It’s very important that we don’t have any injured players (from QPR),” Jakirovic told Hull Live ahead of the clash with Kieran McKenna’s men.

“We will try to do everything to take three points. We’re expecting a difficult game like always. Every game here is difficult, and Ipswich have a lot of quality, of course, individually and as a team, but we will prepare everything to try to stop them.”

Jakirovic will be unable to call upon Matt Crooks after he picked up his fifth booking of the season in stoppage time at Loftus Road, while John Lundstram is still not ready to return to the squad after a seven-game absence. Oli McBurnie and Liam Millar remain sidelined but it’s hoped they could yet come back against Middlesbrough on December 5, though the club continue to be cautious over their respective returns.

“Crooksy, he will be out because of his fifth yellow card, but OK, we have solutions there, so we will choose 11 good players and plus plus bench,” he said.

“We need everybody, especially now in this period, because it’s a lot of games. Right now, we are mostly healthy. We’re expecting Lunny, we’re expecting Oli McBurnie and Liam Millar, so in the next two weeks, I hope we will all be together.”
