The former Hull KR prop has shared his delight after joining his hometown club for the first time.

Former Hull KR prop Greg Richards will feature for hometown club Barrow Raiders in the 2026 Championship season, after penning a 12-month contract.

Richards recently departed Toulouse Olympique after a three-year spell in France, having made the move from Rovers. His exit was confirmed following the French side’s promotion back to Super League for the expanded 14-team competition.

The 30-year-old prop started his rugby league journey at Barrow Island before joining St Helens’ academy, making his Super League debut in 2013. He later went on to also feature for Leigh Leopards and London Broncos before making the move to Sewell Group Craven Park for the 2022 Super League season.

Richards, a Grand Final winner with St Helens in 2014, made 15 appearances for the Robins all from the interchange bench, before joining Toulouse on a season-long loan. He made that move permanent in 2024.

“I’m over the moon to be joining Barrow,” he said.

“It’s my hometown club and I used to watch them as a kid, so to be able to represent the town is amazing.

“I can’t wait to get started with the team, and hopefully we can have a good year.”

Barrow’s director of rugby Andy Gaffney says it’s a full circle moment for the forward, who brings a wealth of experience to the Cumbrian outfit having made more than 100 Super League appearances in his career.

“From our initial conversations with Greg, it was clear how much it meant to get the chance to represent his hometown club.” Gaffney said.

“This is a full circle moment for Greg. He enjoyed real success coming through at St Helens and has gone on to play for several top clubs in the UK and abroad.

“He returns to England hungry to prove himself in Barrow Raiders colours, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome him into our group.”
