It is one of the busiest times of the year for firefighters
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has warned of the potential dangers of illegal fires on Bonfire Night. The service has urged residents to be “extra vigilant” during what is typically the busiest time of the year for firefighters.
Data obtained by Totalkare via a Freedom of Information (FOI) request in September 2025, shows that Humberside Fire and Rescue Service attended 66 emergency incidents on Bonfire Night last year (November 5, 2024). This is a significant 500 per cent increase when compared to the daily average of emergency callouts for a recent 12-month period.
In the year from September 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025, the force attended, on average, 11 emergency incidents daily. Looking at other notable events during the year, there were 21 emergency callouts on Halloween 2024, 12 emergency callouts on New Years Eve 2024, and 13 emergency callouts on New Years Day 2025.
Following the high number of callouts last year, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice to the public ahead of November 5. The service has said: “Bonfire Night is an autumn tradition, but it’s also one of the busiest times of the year for our firefighters.

“While Humberside Fire and Rescue Service does not endorse specific events, we encourage people to attend organised displays. These events not only offer a safer way to enjoy the festivities but also save you the hassle of planning and tidying up afterwards.
“Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is working closely with Humberside Police and local councils to identify and prevent illegal bonfires. We’re also ensuring that fireworks are sold safely and legally across the region. Bonfire Night is not a time to burn household or commercial rubbish. Fly-tipping and illegal burning pose serious risks to public safety and the environment. If you spot suspicious activity or deliberate fire setting, report it anonymously to FireStoppers: Call: 0800 169 5558. Or complete the online form: www.firestoppersreport.co.uk.”
If you suspect someone is selling fireworks illegally, contact Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133 or via their website. For fly-tipping concerns, reach out to your local council:
