‘Old Town’ and ‘Trinity’ are among the hand crafted candle fragrances
A new Hull-based candle studio has launched with a mission to capture the spirit and character of East Yorkshire through scent, craftsmanship, and design. Old Town Candle Co was founded by Ben, a Hull creative with a lifelong connection to the region’s architecture and atmosphere.
Old Town Candle Co hand makes coconut and rapeseed wax candles inspired by the textures, tones, and stories of Hull’s historic heart. Ben said: “Hull’s Old Town has always had this quiet beauty — a mix of salt air, stone, wood, and time.
“I wanted to bottle that feeling; to make something rooted in place but refined enough to sit anywhere.” The debut candle, “Old Town”, blends cedarwood, amber, patchouli, and bergamot.
This warm, nostalgic scent is a nod to the timbered warehouses and soft light of Hull’s oldest streets. Each candle is hand crafted in small batches, poured slowly for a clean, even burn.
Following “Old Town”, the next fragrance in the range, Trinity, draws inspiration from Hull Minster. This reflective scent of oak, rose, and incense captures the stillness and quiet grandeur of one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks.
Each candle is presented in an amber glass jar with a minimalist white label, designed to feel modern yet timeless — echoing the brand’s tagline: Modern craft, rooted in heritage. Using eco-friendly coconut and rapeseed wax, Old Town Candle Co reflects a broader creative renewal happening across East Yorkshire, a return to authenticity, quality, and local pride.
“There’s a new wave of independent makers and designers coming out of Hull,” Ben said. “We’re small, but we care deeply about craft and place. That’s what this brand is about.”
Old Town Candle Co candles will be available for pre-order via Instagram @oldtowncandleco and the brand’s forthcoming online shop later this month.
