The ex-Newcastle and Sunderland boss famously guided the Tigers to the Premier League on two occasions
Former Hull City promotion-winning boss Steve Bruce has been sacked by Blackpool after a 2-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday left the Seasiders second bottom of League One.
Bruce took charge in September last year and had hoped to guide the club back to the Championship after finishing ninth last term, but seven defeats in the first 11 games have left them struggling, and now he’s out of work.
Blackpool fans booed their side off the Bloomfield Road pitch on Saturday, with Bruce admitting his side were well below the level he expected, and he’s paid for a below-par start to the campaign with his job.
“I can try and make as many excuses as I want, but it’s not in my nature to do it,” Bruce told BBC Radio Lancashire. “Today we were nowhere near what’s required of what we need to be, and for that I need to take responsibility.”
Following that defeat, the 64-year-old was relieved of his duties by Blackpool, who confirmed members of his coaching staff would also be moving on.
“Blackpool Football Club can announce the departure of Head Coach Steve Bruce, Assistant Head Coach Steve Agnew and First-Team Coach Stephen Clemence,” they said in a statement. “The club would like to thank them for their efforts, and wishes them the very best for the future. Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks will take charge of first-team matters until a permanent appointment is confirmed.”
