We recently tried one of the latest takeaways to open in Hull. Korna Grill in Paragon Street is new for 2025 and has a menu of smashed burgers, loaded fries, and the unique ‘thrones’ with toasted bread.

The location is perfect for the lunchtime trade, so we were not surprised to find it very busy on a Friday afternoon, with some people eating in and others collecting food to take away. You can order in advance for collection on JustEat, but we ordered from the counter and were advised it would be around a 20-minute wait for food.

By the time the order was ready, the queue was even longer and new customers were being advised of an hour-long wait. Given Korna Grill’s popularity, it is probably worth ordering closer to 12pm than 1pm if you are tight for time to avoid the main dinner time rush.

The takeaway bag was reassuringly heavy, and when we unpacked it we were presented with gigantic portions. The Korean loaded fries were particularly impressive size-wise.

The fries were nicely cooked, not too greasy, and had just the right dusting of chip spice. We were not sure what the Korean aspect of the dish was, but the barbecue sauce had a good kick to it and the garnishes were very flavoursome.

The ‘Beef throne’ contained two juicy beef patties with toasted bread, house sauce, lettuce, gherkins, onion and tomato. The meat tasted of superior quality and the homemade burger sauce was full of delicious pickle and tasted very fresh.

We would guess the bread was a sweet brioche and had been pan-toasted until perfectly golden. It was not at all dry, like burger buns can sometimes can be.

A very minor gripe was the cheese; it did not taste of much and did not melt particularly well either. But by the end of the meal, we were in a deeply satisfying food coma.

We can see why Korna Grill is so popular. Portion sizes – particularly of the meats – are generous without scrimping on quality.
