The Tigers host the Saints on Saturday afternoon looking for a second home victory
John Egan believes Saturday’s last-gasp 2-2 draw at Swansea City can be huge for Hull City‘s season as they prepare to face their biggest test of the campaign so far.
Egan slammed in a 97th-minute equaliser in South Wales to end a run of successive Championship defeats before the international break.
Attention now turns to the visit of Southampton to the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but City’s experienced Republic of Ireland defender says such a dramatic finish can be a huge positive.
“It’s huge,” he told Hull Live. “Results build momentum and draw away from home are really good, I think, especially if you’re 2-1 down. We played well, and on another day, we could have won the game.
“We started the season so well, and then we had a couple of iffy weeks there before the international break. We lost a lot of players, one week there was an illness going around and transfer window and stuff.
“No excuses, but anyway, we had a couple of poor performances really by our standards, and then it was important during the break that we talked about getting back to the standards we’d set before them two games.
“It’s a new group now, the windows closed. We all know who’s in the building and we’ve got players back. I’ve said it before, we’ve got a quality squad, a really good manager as well.
“As long as we keep doing the right things, keep improving. We feel like we can do really well this season, but it’s going to have to come from us and we’re gonna have to keep building the bond we have as a team and a group.
“I think games like this, where we score in the last minute, builds that as well, builds a bit of camaraderie. We’ve got a lot of potential as a team, and it’s up to us now to try and get the most out of that, and if we do, then I think we’ll have a really good season.”
