John Egan was full of beans after scoring his first goal in more than two years, as he opened his Hull City account with a thumping finish to earn a deserved point in a 2-2 draw at Swansea City.

Egan, who endured a frustrating trip to the Swansea.com Stadium on Good Friday last season, volleyed in the back of the net seven minutes into added time to earn City a share of the spoils.

The Irishman’s full-time feeling was very different to the one he and the Tigers experienced back in April when an awful penalty decision was given against him in a 1-0 loss.

It could have been even better for Egan earlier in an impressive second-half showing from the Tigers, despite falling behind to Ronald’s 57th-minute goal from some pretty haphazard defending, when his goal-bound effort was brilliantly blocked by Ben Cabango.

“Definitely (we deserved a point), yeah, I think we played really well in the second half. We probably got caught in the counter during our best spell of the game (for the second goal), so to get a point later on, it was the least we deserved,” he told Hull Live befoe admitting he should have had a brace.

“Yeah, I should have. To be fair to their player, the centre half (Cabango), it was a great block, I thought it was in. All I thought I had to do was sidefoot and it was in the corner. He came out of nowhere and blocked it.”

For all thier pressure and chances, it looked like a third straight defeat until Mo Belloumi’s cross was headed to Slater, who crashed in a thumping volley into a pack of players, before he fell kindly to Egan to slam into the bottom corner, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

“We kept believing,” Egan continued. “I felt like there was a goal coming for one of us, to be honest, because we had that many balls in the box and we were getting on the end of them too. I’m just delighted one went in in the end.

“I was just thinking, just head down, connect with it, get it on target. It all happened so fast, but it managed to sneak it in.

“I’m delighted now to get my first goal for the club as well, it’s really good. I came close last year a couple of times. It’s something that I think I need to add to my game. Since I’ve been here, I’ve tried to be more of a threat, so I’m delighted to score.”

The club’s social media account and other members of the media suggested Egan’s strike was a ‘bundled finish’, but the defender, with a smirk on his face, disagreed.

“It was an absolute sidewinder off the shin in the corner,” he joked. “I didn’t know they said that, but that’s very harsh. I put a bit of swaz on it into the corner on purpose.

“The lads were giving me a bit of grief and I just said, ‘Lads, sometimes you need to put a bit of swaz on it.’

“Last time I was speaking to you, we got robbed, and then this time now, after scoring the last-minute goal, so it’s football, things happen. It is what it is, I’m just happy we got a point.”
