Get on a hobby horse or let your pooch take on a fun obstacle course in an event that is ‘all about having a good time’

An all-new “joyful, laughter-filled” Hobby Horse and Hounds Fun Day is taking place at an East Yorkshire venue later this month. Sewerby Hall and Gardens is hosting the family-friendly event between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, September 28.

One of the exciting activities on the agenda is the Hobby Horse Obstacle Course. Visitors are being invited to have a go at the course, with the choice of bringing their own hobby horse or borrowing one from the team. Fancy dress is welcomed and all participants will be awarded a rosette for their efforts.

A spokesperson said: “Saddle up your trusty steed, or borrow one of ours, and take on our just-for-fun obstacle course. Whether you’re an experienced rider or a first timer, this event is all about having a good time.”

The Hobby Horse Obstacle Course will run as follows:

10.30am – 11.45am, 20cm maximum height

12pm – 1.15pm, 40cm maximum height

1.30pm – 2.45pm, 60cm maximum height

3pm – 4pm, Accumulator 40cm maximum height, with participants challenged to complete the course in under two minutes.

The minimum age for participants is three, but an area for under threes will also be available. The entry fee is £3 per person plus standard admission charges to Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

The second activity is the Dog Agility Course. All dogs are welcome at the fun-filled and friendly course, with a treat for every participant.

A spokesperson said: “Does your pooch have what it takes? Let them shine in our fun and friendly Dog Agility Course! From tiny terriers to playful pups, big or small, every dog is welcome – and every dog is a winner!”

The course will be open between 10am and 4pm, and visitors can register their dogs on the day. The entry fee for this event is £3 per dog, plus standard admission charges to Sewerby Hall and Gardens for each person.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ”This unique event brings something new and exciting to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. Whether people are wanting to come along and take part in the activities or simply enjoy the spectacle, this event will provide fun, laughter and a wonderful day out for all the family.”

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the gardens and woodland walks of Sewerby Hall, with the option to get involved in outdoor games and family activities.
