A Hull cake business is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a night of live music, fun and fundraising. A Decade of Cake and Kindness is taking place at The Lexington bar, in Ferensway, on Saturday, September 20.
Ellie Birch, founder of Elliegantly Made, chose to raise money for the Respiratory Clinical Trials Unit at Castle Hill Hospital, which carries out research into serious lung conditions. Many of them, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, can be fatal.
Ellie said the cause “means the world to us” after Ray, the other half of Elliegantly Made, was diagnosed with the lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in 2020. The condition causes progressively worsening scarring in the lungs.
She said: “Thanks to the incredible work of the team at Castle Hill, Ray is now part of a pioneering clinical trial and this event is our way of saying thank you. Celebrating 10 years of Elliegantly Made this way feels really special.
“Bringing together music, friends, cake and fundraising for a cause so personal is just perfect. Hull has such a wealth of talent and I’m thrilled we can showcase it all in one unforgettable night.”

Ellie will be stepping back into her old role as singer-compère for the night. Guests can expect live music, raffles, auctions, a light supper, and of course, plenty of cake.
Headlining the event is Rapture, Hull’s renowned party band, more often seen touring the UK and Europe than performing locally. The line-up includes lead singer and percussionist Lianna Webber, drummer and vocalist Simon Stevens, multi-instrumentalist Rich Banks and newest member Bryn Abbott.
Simon said: “Ellie and her team have supplied us with cakes plenty of times over the years, so this really feels like a full-circle moment. We’re delighted to be part of such a special night at the Lexington and to be helping raise funds for an incredible cause.”
Also performing is local favourite, Steve James. The talented singer has more than 25 years’ experience and a strong regional following.
A Decade of Cake & Kindness will take place at the Lexington Rooftop Bar & Terrace, DoubleTree by Hilton, Ferensway, Hull, on Saturday, September 20. Tickets cost £15 each, including a light supper, call 07939 176001.
