Abu Kamara admits the lure of testing himself in one of Europe’s premier club competitions was the reason behind him swapping Hull City for Getafe in Spain.

Kamara’s on-off move to the La Liga club was finally sealed on deadline day last Monday after a nervous wait, which enabled the Tigers to sign Amir Hadziahmetovic from Besiktas.

The 22-year-old’s loan move to the Estadio Coliseum is an initial season-long loan move, though Hull Live understands Getafe have the option to make it permanent in the summer for a fee in the region of £3m.

Kamara is in line to make his La Liga debut this weekend when Getafe host Oviedo on Saturday afternoon, before a mouthwatering trip to Catalonia to face Barcelona next weekend.

That clash next Sunday is expected to be played at Montjuic, given the redevelopment of the Nou Camp has still not been completed to a level which allows games to be played there.

“I expect exciting football, counter-attacking football and giving our all against anyone we come up against,” the 22-year-old told reporters in Spain.

“I chose Getafe because of the project that was presented to me by the sporting director and technical director, and also, La Liga is very appealing to me. It’s a big opportunity for me to be here, so I thank the club for that.

“From the Hull (City friendly) game (he wants me) to be direct, being positive, and try to make things happen. Hopefully, I can contribute with goals and assists for the team.”

“The same as I would face anyone else,” he said when asked about making the step up from the Championship in England to La Liga in Spain. “I believe in myself. Whoever is presented in front of me, I’m going to give it one hundred per cent, go at my man all the time and try to make things happen regardless of where I’m playing.
