A village road in East Yorkshire is set to close to through traffic for a week. An improvement project is taking place to upgrade Main Street, in Etton, between the junctions with the B1248 Bainton to Beverley road, and New Road in the village.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the £100,000 scheme will begin on Monday, September 22, with work carried out during the daytime throughout that week. The project will involve resurfacing, structural patching, replacing drain covers and kerbing.

During the work, the road will be shut to all through traffic, and a diversion will be in place via Etton Dikes, Moor Hill, the road from Heater Corner to Cow Bridge, East Street, South Dalton Road, Main Street (South Dalton), Etton Road, South Dalton Road (Etton), and Gardham Road.

Access to properties within the working area will be maintained during the works. The project is to be carried out by the council’s own road maintenance team.

Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport at the council, said: “Thank you to local residents and drivers for bearing with us while we carry out this essential work to improve this road into Etton.”

Another scheme to structurally patch the remaining length of Main Street is planned for later in the year.

The road is then due for surface dressing in summer next year to further strengthen it and protect it from potholes and other damage.
