The force says someone called them in the early hours of Tuesday claiming to have been assaulted
A cordon was put in place on an east Hull footpath on Tuesday after someone called police saying they had been assaulted. However, the force has today stated there “is no evidence of an assault having taken place”.
Officers carried out “extensive enquiries” after a member of the public phoned them near Hedon Road at the junction with Valletta Street reporting that they had been assaulted at around 1.30am on Tuesday (September 9).
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Swaby, of Humberside Police, said: “After identifying the location of the call, officers were immediately deployed to the area, however the caller had already left the scene prior to their arrival. A scene guard was put in place at the time to allow officers and specialist teams to search the area and conduct enquiries to establish the full circumstances around the call and identify those involved.
“After a thorough investigation, and on detailed review of CCTV that covered the area where the incident is reported to have occurred, I would like to reassure the local community that at this time there is no evidence of an assault having taken place.
“We treat all calls of this nature extremely seriously, and enquiries remain ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances around the report.”
Anyone with any information that may assist officers with their ongoing investigation, is asked to contact Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 25*126499.
