The Tigers have endured a difficult summer as they work under tight EFL restrictions
Hull City must learn from the plight they’ve found themselves in over the course of what was a hugely challenging summer in the transfer market.
That’s according to head coach Sergej Jakirovic, who says City have to take on board the findings from their appeal hearing and move forward, ensuring late payments are a thing of the past.
At the start of July, City were hit by transfer embargoes and then a fee restriction by the EFL, and though their initial three-window punishment was reduced to two on appeal, they’re still unable to trade normally until next summer at the earliest.
Should the club notch up seven days of late payments over the course of the next 12 months, the third window ban on buying players or paying loan fees would be activated, meaning they could not trade normally until January 2027.
Despite that, however, the Tigers were still able to enjoy a largely successful transfer window to give Jakirovic a squad capable of being hugely competitive this season but he’s warned the club must take on board what’s happened and ensure it doesn’t happen again.
“Yes, of course (the club must learn),” the Croatian boss said. “We need to learn from our lessons because if we don’t, they (the EFL) will punish us again if it happens, so we have to be very, very careful.
“This can’t happen again, and we must follow them (the rules). This is the rules, we have to play by the book, and that’s it. What can we do now? This is the decision, and we must we must go forward.”
