Staff at a Hessle-based business are gearing up to take on a “forfeit-filled” walking marathon in support of an NHS charity that supports patients and their families. Digital marketing firm Eyeweb has come up with the concept as a twist on the charity walk format, and will put it into practice when they trek from Brough to Hornsea.

The team will take on the ‘Cards Against Eyeweb’ idea later this month as they amble through the Hull and East Yorkshire countryside. Forfeits will be unlocked through donations, with cards ranking on a scale from “easy” to “evil”.

Eyeweb says the challenges aim to keep spirits high while raising as much money as possible, with forfeits like “wear a ridiculous outfit” and “eat a dog biscuit” amongst the deck. Paul Scott, managing director of Eyeweb, said: “As a creative agency, we like to think a little outside the box when it comes to our annual fundraisers. We wanted to do something that tested us but also got people laughing and feeling part of the event.”

Funds raised will go towards NHS Health Stars, the official charity for Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, which supports patients, families and NHS staff by funding equipment that NHS budgets do not cover. Eyeweb designed the charity’s website.

NHS Health Stars relies on the support of businesses, community groups and the generosity of public donations. Money it receives goes towards helping thousands of people using services covering mental health, neurodiversity, learning disability, children and young people.

As well as funding equipment that NHS budgets do not cover, the charity has a hand in making buildings more attractive and therapeutic – providing extras that make a visit or stay in hospital “that little bit brighter”. Its work also aims to ease the burden on families, offering comfort through treatment and reducing boredom.

Eyeweb's walk will cover 26.2 miles of countryside.

Anita Green, charity manager at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’d like to wish everyone taking part in Eyeweb’s fundraiser the very best of luck. As a small charity, we depend on the generosity of businesses like Eyeweb to help us achieve our fundraising goals. The money raised will make a real difference by enhancing patient care and supporting staff wellbeing at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.”

Donations are now open to the public and people are encouraged to contribute via the official JustGiving page. Eyeweb is also inviting businesses to become official sponsors through a £250 donation.
