Work is under way on a £5.2m overhaul of historic flats in the centre of Hull, at Turner Court and Owbridge Court. Housing association Thirteen Group has appointed regeneration specialist RE:GEN to carry out the programme of upgrades, which include new kitchens and bathrooms.

Turner Court, which is a Grade II listed building and Owbridge Court, will undergo refurbishment to more than 70 homes, along with the communal spaces. Thirteen said the works will make sure the buildings remain safe, modern and comfortable for residents.

The upgrades come as part of Thirteen’s Capital Delivery Framework and also include full electrical rewiring, installation of new boilers and heating systems and replacement of balconies. Residents will also get new sash and UPVC windows fitted to boost energy efficiency, as well as repairs to the buildings roofs and landscaping.

Security of the properties will also be upgraded with installation of a new CCTV system. The works have been organised following a consultation event with residents where they met the Thirteen and RE:GEN teams and were given the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the work.

Claire Atkinson, Thirteen’s investment area manager, said: “This is a significant investment for our customers in two much-loved buildings in the heart of Hull. The buildings are rich in history and character, and these improvements will ensure that residents benefit from having more energy efficient, modern, safe homes.

“We’re committed to investing in our customers’ homes, and this project is a great example of that.”

Tim Wood, managing director of RE:GEN Yorkshire & East Midlands said: “We’re delighted to be delivering this project on behalf of Thirteen as part of this transformative investment programme. We’re looking forward to seeing the project take shape and see the completed work make a real difference to customers’ homes and the local communities.”

Earlier this year, Thirteen secured £30m of funding from NatWest which includes a Housing Green Retrofit Loan that the housing association is using to carry out its programme of retrofit works. At the time, Thirteen said the project would help it reduce carbon emissions across its homes by 100% by 2050.

Thirteen said: “This additional £30m funding will enable us to accelerate our retrofit programme, benefiting thousands of customers by making their homes more energy efficient. It’s a landmark deal for us, and one which reflects our reputation as a trusted housing association with a proven track record of investment in our homes and a clear commitment to achieving net zero.

“We look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with NatWest as we deliver these improvements for our customers.”
