The health and beauty store closed after a clearance sale
A branch of Bodycare in Beverley has closed down. The shop in Toll Gavel sold beauty products and was emptied of stock following a clearance sale.
The health and beauty retailer also has shops in Hull’s Prospect Street Shopping Centre and North Point Shopping Centre, which are both still open. Bodycare, which employs around 1,500 people, could fall into administration if a buyer is not found, Sky News has reported.
The Bodycare website is currently offline. A brief message states the online shop “is closed right now”, directing visitors to “try again later”.
In July, AURELIUS Finance Company announced it had agreed a £7million loan for Bodycare which it described as “one of the UK’s leading health and beauty retailers”. In a press release, it said the loan was “secured against Bodycare’s extensive retail inventory”.
The loan was intended to “help the business return to growth”, it added. Bodycare was founded in Lancashire in 1970 as a market stall.
From its humble beginnings, it evolved into a national retailer operating 145 stores across the UK and a growing e-commerce presence. The company offers more than 3,000 products, including brands such as L’Oréal and Simple.
It sells household essentials, cosmetics, skincare, haircare, and fragrances. Typically, these are sold at lower prices than at other mainstream high-street retailers.
Jas Singh, Founder & CEO of Bodycare owner Baaj Capital, said in July’s statement: “AURELIUS Finance Company has once again proven their ability to understand a business and deliver a bespoke financing solution within a tight timeframe. For us as an investor seeking financing solutions for our portfolio, this is crucial for success.”
James Marler, Director and Head of New Business at AURELIUS Finance Company, added: “This is another great example of how AURELIUS Finance Company can step in when traditional lenders struggle. We pride ourselves on delivering tailored solutions to mid-sized businesses with speed, flexibility and commercial pragmatism.”
