Hull City expect to be busy on deadline day
Hull City are in pole position to strike a deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi on loan in what could prove to be their final arrival of the summer.
Hull Live understands that Gyabi is due at the club’s Cottingham training ground on Monday to complete the formalities of his switch from West to East Yorkshire, provided there are no late hitches.
The Tigers have been able to agree a deal for the youngster despite working under strict transfer conditions. Gyabi would become the second player to arrive from Elland Road this summer, following on from the return of Joe Gelhardt ahead of the season opener at Coventry City last month.
Leeds have had no shortage of interest the youngster with five clubs chasing his signature, two of which are in France, but it’s understood he’s keen to join the Tigers.
City boss Sergej Jakirovic has been keen to bolster his midfield ranks in the final days of the window, and that search was stepped up after Matt Crooks picked up an ankle injury, which is set to keep him sidelined until the middle of September, having already missed the last two defeats.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, who is 6ft 5ins tall, came through the ranks at Manchester City after spells with Cray Wanderers and Millwall, before moving to Elland Road in 2022 in a £5m deal which saw Kalvin Phillips move to the Eithad Stadium.
Born in London but of Ghanian descent, Gyabi joined Plymouth Argyle on loan in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign. That was cut short because of injury, but he returned last term and played 48 times in all competitions for the Pilgrims last term, including 43 in the Championship.
The powerful performer has represented England at Under-15, 16s, 18s, 19s, 20s and 21s over the past few years, making his debut for Lee Carsley’s side in November last year against Spain.
City are also expecting to finally confirm the arrival of midfielder Amir Hadziahmetovic on a season-long loan deal from Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas.
