Hull’s streets have come alive again with the return of the Freedom Festival.

Running until today (Sunday, August 31), with the city’s heart filled with dance, circus, theatre, art and heritage activity, there is free fun for all the family to enjoy. The festival, which launched on Thursday, is an annual event packed with world-class performance, powerful storytelling, and unforgettable moments across Hull – and beyond, with the Freedom On Tour element of the initiative.

Freedom Films has also been a new addition to the programme for 2025. This year’s festival will have provided 76 experiences by 29 artists featuring hundreds of performers, with over 115 hours of free entertainment for the public, once it draws to a close.

As the 2025 Freedom Festival in Hull enters its final moments, we look back through the Hull Daily Mail archives to ten years ago to the performances that made up the 2015 Freedom Festival.
