The Tigers may have been forced to rethink their transfer plans after issues beyond their control arose
Abu Kamara’s move to Spanish side Getafe has finally been completed after a dramatic day in the Spanish capital Madrid ended with him penning a contract, it can be revealed.
The Hull City star has been in Madrid for the past week and underwent a medical with Getafe earlier this week ahead of a proposed loan move to the club, which played the Tigers in pre-season, after the Championship outfit reluctantly sanctioned his exit.
Getafe, like City, are working under their own transfer restrictions and were hoping to move out Christantus Uche to free up space for Kamara. The Nigerian striker was expected to join Premier League outfit Wolves in a £17.5m deal, but that collapsed, leaving Kamara in limbo.
The La Liga side were still working to try to resolve the issue late on Friday ahead of their game away at Valencia at the Mestalla, and were eventually able to overcome the problem, which was unrelated to the Tigers or Kamara, sources involved in the deal told Hull Live.
City had been working on moving out Kamara to allow them to bring in Besiktas midfielder Amir Hadziahmetovic. However, that deal has also been held up and, as a result, he’s not expected to be in the squad at Bristol City on Saturday, despite training at Cottingham over the past couple of days.
The Tigers boss had wanted to bring in cover given Kamara’s departure, with Mohamed Belloumi and Liam Millar returning from long-term ACL injuries, and Joel Ndala and David Akintola still finding their feet in the Championship.
Jakirovic has gone on record as saying he did not want to lose Kamara, but admitted the player was keen on the move while the situation was not helped by the Tigers’ own transfer struggles. They can only bring in a new face when a senior player moves on.
Kamara did have other options if the move to Getafe failed, but a move to Madrid was always his number one preference, and now it gives City the space required to bring in Hadziahmetovic.
