Abu Kamara was left out of Hull City’s squad to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday lunchtime as he nears a move to Spanish La Liga side Getafe as reported earlier this month.

Kamara, who joined City on deadline day last summer from Norwich City, is heading to Madrid on loan for the season and his exit will free up a space in Sergej Jakirovic’s squad.

Elsewhere in Jakirovic’s side, there was no Charlie Hughes due to a concussion picked up last Sunday. His place went to teenager Cathal McCarthy in the heart of the back four alongside John Egan, with Semi Ajayi and Akin Famewo also sidelined through injury.

McCarthy arrived in the summer from University College in Dublin and will make his senior debut, having impressed Jakirovic during pre-season.

Given the ankle injury picked up by Matt Crooks in last Sunday’s 3-2 win over Oxford United, Regan Slater was brought back into the starting XI to partner John Lundstram in the middle of the park.

Elsewhere, there was a huge boost for City with Mohamed Belloumi back in the squad and named on the bench for the first time since damaging his ACL at Oxford United on Bonfire Night last season.

Along with Hughes, Ajayi and Famewo, Jakirovic was unable to call upon skipper Lewie Coyle and Matt Crooks, while Liam Millar is due back next month.

Rovers, meanwhile, were unchanged from side beaten 2-1 late on by Birmingham City last Saturday which means an immediate return for Sean McLoughlin, who departed City in the summer.
