“The journey may be tough but so are you”
A charity ice hockey game raising money for Andy Man Club hopes to draw an even bigger crowd after its debut event last year. With pro players from Hull Seahawks, it is set to be a “competitive” game while raising money for the local mental health charity.
The charity game will be held at Hull Ice Arena on Sunday, August 24. The doors open at 4pm and the puck drops at 5pm. There will be a showcase from Kingston Sharks under 10s during the intermission, and other entertainment includes a raffle and competitions.
Organiser Dan Foxhall from Hull Knights said: “We just decided to put on a charity game for Andy’s Man Club. Because it was so successful last year, we voted and decided to do it again.
“Because it was so last-minute last year, we didn’t know what kind of crowd we would draw in, but we ended up with 500 or 600 people in there. For a local club like ourselves, it is quite a big thing.
“This year, we want to go bigger. We have brought in players from Hull Seahawks which should draw a bit of a crowd and we are hoping to double numbers this year.”
Both teams will be a mix of players from pro-team Hull Seahawks and recreational team Hull Knights. Dan said it should make an exciting match.
He said: “It was quite competitive last year and this year is going to be even more competitive, based on the players we have got. We have tried to make it more competitive so local fans will get to see some good quality hockey.”
Andy’s Man Club, a group offering peer-to-peer support for men, was chosen because it is a local charity and everybody knows someone who has experienced mental health stresses The motto for the event is, “The journey may be tough, but so are you”.
Dan said: “We voted and unanimously it was Andy’s Man Club. We have close connections, some of our players use the facilities at Andy’s Man Club and that was the driving factor behind it.
“It was a cause we wanted to follow. When we sat down as a club, everybody knows somebody who has been through what Andy’s Man Club represents so it was a no-brainer for us.”
Tickets cost £5 for adults (age over 14) and can be bought from the sponsor’s website, Vive le Vélo. Asides from the ice hockey game, there will be vendors and other activities and contests. These include:

- Cake stall from Scrummy Crumb
- Face glitter & temporary tattoos stall
- Ruckus – hockey merch
- Blue line hockey – customised cups key rings etc
- Fan shot competition
