Hull FC were defeated 16-10 at St Helens.
Hull FC went down fighting at St Helens on Friday night, losing 16-10 on Merseyside. They were understrength but they kept on going, showing the levels of grit and resilience that have been with them all year – and almost snatching victory.
They trailed 8-0 early on but fought back with a Davy Litten try. Saints then extended their lead to 16-6 in the second half before Lewis Martin’s try brought about a frantic finish. Here are the ratings.
Zak Hardaker – Back at full-back after two games in the halves. Brave and courageous as always and was safe under the high ball. 8
Harvey Barron – Worked his socks off as he does every week. Carried hard and looked to get into space, also competing for Hull’s attacking kicks and providing a threat. 8
Tom Briscoe – A solid effort from the centre, who put himself about with and without the ball. Always dependable. 7
Davy Litten – Scored Hull’s first try, reacting quickly to a St Helens error to ground the ball. Was a constant threat. Offloaded well and dangerous in the air.. 8
Lewis Martin – His 29th try of the season gave Hull a chance late on. A good finish after a delicious pass from Sezer. Elsewhere, carried well and never shied away from the tough work. 8
Jordan Rapana – Back in the side after a head injury. Competed well and ran hard. 7
Aidan Sezer – A welcome return. Did his best to lead the side and came up with a superb try assist at the end. 7
Herman Ese’ese – Saints were fast and aggressive all game and looked to stifle Hull’s big prop, who was certainly in the action in what what was a fiery contest. 6
Amir Bourouh – Started the game and was spelt with Cade Cust at hooker, ensuring Hull’s energy at dummy-half remained. 6
Yusuf Aydin – Will be disappointed Morgan Knowles went through him for Saints’ first try but he fronted up after that and got through some work. 6
Jed Cartwright – Left the field early on with a pectoral injury. Potentially season ending. N/A
Jordan Lane – Wouldn’t think he’d been out for four months due to injury. Got stuck in again in what was a gutsy display, especially in defence. 7
Brad Fash – His heart is never in question. Returned from a hamstring injury and gave it everything against a feisty pack. 7
Jack Ashworth – Had some strong surges with the ball and looked to make an impact. 6
Cade Cust – Some good moments at hooker. Lively. 7
Ed Chamberlain – Came on early and stood up in defence. 6
Matty Laidlaw – Put himself about with some big hits in defence. Comes into the side and never lets anyone down. Reliable. 7
